Emma Cate

No surprise to us, Emma continues to be the comedian in our family. Even when not trying, this child is hysterical. Two nights ago as we were getting ready to say our bedtime prayers she asked us to pray for her. She did not want to have any more nightmaters like she did the night before! When I asked her to say it again, she said, "Nightmaters like tater or mater from the garden." Yes, we do live in the south...no we do not speak in that manner. I have no idea where mater and tater came from, nor do I know why she calls nightmares, nightmaters. She is Emma Cate and half of everything she says is definitely an original!

Then, this morning as we were putting Carter in his car seat she exclaims, "Look Mom, Carter is sitting up and using his trapezius to pull himself up." She has been learning about her upper body muscles in PE and each week she gives us a health lesson on muscles. So far we have learned about our biceps, deltoids, pectorals, and now our trapezius muscles. It is true that children are sponges. She soaks up and remembers everything almost the first time she hears it. She and Hannah have amazing memories. On the first day of school Emma learned in PE that her heart is a muscle and that was the fact she chose to share with us about what she learned on the first day of school. I think it is making an impression on her because it is all new knowledge. In class she is reviewing, shapes, colors, numbers and the alphabet, most of which she already knows. I think her PE lessons are making an impression on her because, well hello it's PE and every one's favorite school subjects are PE and recess! #2 She is moving and active for 40 minutes, two things she is VERY good at! #3 it is new and she loves learning new things! I am thankful for a Phys Ed teacher that sees that she can impart knowledge and learning into a five year old's mind and make her even smarter during her two short visits in the gym each week. (Our PE teacher this year is our former Assistant Principal. She is a brilliant woman and she is using her new position in the school to still impact these children and make them wiser and smarter, even on the first day of school!) I know I am biased (being a former teacher) but teachers are AMAZING and I am so thankful for the impact they have on my children. We have been VERY BLESSED with an amazing school with an amazing staff and for that I am so grateful.

So, my prayer for you today is to exercise your trapezius (I had to ask Emma what exactly that was since I had forgotten! Shameful, I know!) and that your sleep will be free of all NIGHTMATERS tonight!
