Busy Days

We had a busy weekend completing some house projects we wanted to work on. I cleaned the house on Friday and did all the laundry so we wouldn't have to do any of that on Saturday like we usually do. I also repainted the girls armoire on Friday because it was starting to look old after 6+ years. Then Saturday we got up and Joe helped me prime the old green bookcase in the spare bedroom. I had picked it up at a friend's yard sale several years ago for $10.00 and we had a lot of green in the spare bedroom, so it served it's purpose. I was going to donate it to goodwill, but thought I would try to paint it white before I gave it away to see if it could be put to use in the baby's room. Well, after a coat of primer and three coats of white paint it looks presentable enough to use in the nursery. So, our $10.00 bookcase lives on! After painting the bookcase we moved to the girls old art table. They had outgrown this one and MeMaw bought them a newer, bigger table from Pottery Barn last Christmas. We saved this one, because we thought it could be put to use for birthday parties etc. when we had extra kiddos in the house. However, the top of the table was stained and knicked from years of cutting and pasting and coloring! So, this weekend Joe primed it for me and repainted the whole table and I decoupaged the top with colors that match the girls' room. Right now we are using it for their computer table. Their computer was in the soon to be nursery and it was going to the get the boot soon, so we went ahead and moved it into their room and they are using their new table for their computer. It's a shame that the monitor and keyboard cover up some of the cuteness! This was my first attempt at decoupaging, so be gracious. I wasn't sure of how to design the top and I wasn't sure if I knew what I was doing, but it only has a few bubbles and looks really cute!
Joe also cut back all of our privet bushes that have grown so big over the last 3 1/2 years. He trimmed and raked and cleaned up the yard for a long time Saturday while I painted the bookcase. After all that, today after church Joe worked on putting some things up in the attic and organized the attic a little bit while I grocery shopped with the girls and then came home and cooked a few things for the week. The girls made pumpkin muffins with me using my new mixer and they are so yummy! MeMaw, it is a recipe you must have given me years ago. It is in your handwriting and it is written on the back of one of our rehearsal dinner invitations for mine and Joe's wedding! I'll post it later this week, because they were really good and really easy and it made 30 muffins. I thought I would have to share some with the neighbors and Auntie but the girls love them so much, Auntie might be the only one that gets any!
Here's a picture of our work. I was too tired to move the bookcase down the hall to the bedroom before I took the picture, so it was taken in the living room where Joe brought in from outside after it dried. It is now in the bedroom and I must say, it looks pretty good. We are both tired and sore from so much work this weekend, but it sures feel good to get so much accomplished. The girls were extra sweet this weekend. We praised them numerous times about their good behavior. They hardly fought and we really had a great time spending time together as a family and not really doing anything fun but just being together. It was a fabulous weekend. I'm off to read a book and rest! I hear Joe in the kitchen warming up a pumpkin muffin. I think I'll join him!
