Upward Awards

The girls received their cheerleading awards last week.  The church did a hotdog dinner, a Christian magic show and the awards in the same evening.  It was a long night but the girls loved it!  Carter was good until the last hour or so and then he got sleepy. We had to work it a little bit to keep him happy, but the delight of the girls was worth it.  In between announcing the basketball teams and cheer squads, they would play crazy music and toss out stuffed animals from the stage.  All the kids (about 200 of them) would stand up and jump up and down to the music and try to catch the stuffed animals.  They loved it!  The girls didn’t catch one but the church did some raffles and Joe won a soccer ball.  It is a perfect prize because the girls have two soccer goals that they love to use in the spring and summer and only one ball to share.  This way they can both practice kicking into the goals at the same time.  They each got a big cheer trophy with their names on it and a cute pink and black sling backpack with the Upward logo on it.  Upward is such a fantastic program.  If you have school aged kids that aren’t involved, we highly recommend it.  The church where the girls cheered does everything with excellence and it was a fantastic season.

Here are some pictures of them receiving their trophies.  The coaches said they could wear their jersey tops if they wanted to, but they didn’t have to wear them. (Well, notice my girls did not want to wear theirs and everyone else did except for one little girl that wore her Sunday best!) The older girl beside of Hannah is one of the assistant coaches.  So she doesn’t count!  Oh, well.  I let them choose….even though I wanted to MAKE them wear their cheer tops.  When they get older and say, “Mom why didn’t I have on my jersey top?”  I’ll remind them that I let them choose!  The girl to Hannah’s right is one of her best friends. They have known each other since preschool.  Jordan is very petite and Hannah is very tall.  It reminds me of my best friend Heidi and I in high school. She was 4’11 and I was 6’1.  Jordan’s mom told me that the doctors don’t expect her to reach 5’0 and Hannah will probably be close to 6’0 according to the formula they use for predicting height.  Look at those thin long legs and long blonde hair.  I might have to lock her up and throw away the key!

We had a great night and look forward to next year.  Maybe next year Daddy will get his wish and they will play basketball instead of cheer!  We’ll see!  At least he has Carter to look forward to.  The doctors say he will probably be about 6’4, so maybe he will be our star basketball player!
