To say we’ve had a crazy week would be the understatement of the year. I’ll start with last weekend. Emma ran a 102-103 fever all weekend. So last Monday Carter and I took her to the pediatrician. Her fever was 103 at the doctor’s office. They attributed her congestion and constant cough to a sinus infection but felt the high fever was probably viral. So, they gave her antibiotic for the sinus infection and told us to return if the fever didn’t go down. Thank the Lord it went down the next day. So, that was Monday. On Monday night or Tuesday morning, I can’t remember! Carter starts having diarrhea. It continues all day Tuesday and I fear he has contracted a stomach bug from the doctor’s office.
Yucky… but we press on. Tuesday I drop Hannah off at gymnastics and don’t stay to watch her like I usually do because Carter is sick and cranky and frankly, I don’t want to mess with diarrhea at the gym. So, we go home and leave Joe to pick up Emma from dance and then Hannah from the gym. At 5:28 my cell rings and it is the gym. They fear Hannah has broken her arm. I tell them Joe should be there any minute and he will take care of her. Hannah’s class ends at 5:30. She was doing the very last back handspring of the day when she fell and broke both bones in her right forearm. So, that night Joe, Hannah and I are at the children’s hospital until 10 pm getting her bones reset and splinted. Hannah is out of school Wed-Friday with a broken right arm. She is a fabulous patient! She never shed a tear when she fell or any moment since. She has been a trooper! She has had VERY LITTLE pain and amazes us at her ability to acclimate to using her left hand (she is right handed).
So back to the crazy week, I had her and cranky, diarrhea boy to take care of all week. Mind you, Carter now stands up ALL DAY LONG. Wherever you are he crawls over and pulls up on your chair, on the sofa, on the dishwasher door, on the table, on the coffee table, on the empty box on the floor, on ANYTHING near by and then whines for you to pay him attention or hold him or talk to him, or play with him, but mostly just to HOLD HIM! I know that was very wretched run on sentence, but you get the point. When he is sick and teething and learning to stand it is a bad combination of crazy. If I try to paint bags he wants to play with my paints. If I try to hand-draw the bags he tries to grab the markers from my hand. If I try to print literacy materials, he yanks the papers out of the printer tray and throws them on the floor and shoves his toys into the manual feed tray. (My printer is a large office model that sits on the floor.) So, today when I had had enough I took him to the living room, plopped us both down on the sofa and held him for an hour while we watched Oprah together. I NEVER watch TV during the day. I record shows so that when I work late at night I have something to watch while I stuff orders, paint bags etc. but I rarely do NOTHING and just watch TV….but the girls never exacerbated me the way Carter does right now. Don’t get me wrong, I love that curly headed baby to pieces but which of you has a full time job and has to take your 13 month old to work with you every day? :) It gets crazy sometimes!
So, that’s our week in a nutshell. This past weekend was pretty quiet. Emma cheered in her last upwards basketball game. We cleaned house and did laundry. We went to eat Mexican per Hannah’s week long request for Mexican food and tomorrow we go to get Hannah’s cast on at 10 am. We have about 2 inches snow that has fallen in our area today. I pray that school is in tomorrow and that Emma goes in on time. If not, we will be in a rush to get her to school with a 2 hour delay and then get to the orthopedic on time at 10:00. Joe can’t go with us, so I might have three Edgerton children with me at the doctor’s office. FUN TIMES!
So, say a prayer for us. Pray for Hannah to get a perfect report tomorrow. Pray for Carter to gain some independence and not be so clingy. Pray I miraculously stop needing sleep and can get all my work done in the late night hours so I don’t have to work when Carter is awake!
That being said, I’m off to stuff folders with literacy materials!
