Emma's Surprise Unveiled

Photobucket

For those of you that know about Emma's first experience getting her ears pierced, you realize what a big deal this is. Two years ago on Hannah's fifth birthday, Hannah got her ears pierced. Well Emma wanted to try it. So she got in the chair first. This particular jewelry store didn't have two people working so she couldn't get both ears done at one time. (Lesson learned....always get them punched at the same time!) After one ear was pierced Emma refused to let the second hole be put in. She told everyone, "I'll get my ears pierced in heaven because Jesus won't hurt me!" From the mouth of a three year old! So we went to a different mall and had Hannah's pierced at the same time!

So, last week we were at the mall shopping for school clothes and Joe asked Emma if she wanted to get her ears pierced. Hannah got hers done a few weeks before she started kindergarten and so we thought Emma might want to get hers done before kindergarten too. She said yes. So, Catherine and I took her into the store while Hannah jumped on the bungey trampoline thing in the mall. Emma got up in the chair and was ready, then she wasn't ready, then she was ready, then she wasn't ready. For those of you that don't know, when they take the earrings out of the sterile packaging and place them in the gun, you have to buy them regardless, so we bought the $30.00 earrings and Emma still didn't have holes in her ears. Emma then decides she wants to do it. She wants to wait on Hannah and Joe and then she will do it. So, all of us return to Claires and Emma gets in the chair. They inform us that they can't use the $30.00 pair we just bought, they are not sterile, so if they take another pair out, we will have to buy them too. So we talk to Emma and she PROMISES she will let them do it. Well, as you can guess, she promises but then backs out when they start coming at her with the gun. Well, one of the girls that pierced her ears told Emma that they needed to measure her ears to make sure the earrings would fit. Would she let them hold the earrings up to her ear and measure them. Emma agreed. I hated to trick Emma, but I knew she desperately wanted it done, she was just too afraid of the actual click and I hated to spend $60.00 all for not. So, they put them up to her ear to "measure" and they put them in. She cried for a split second or two and then we all cheered and she was so happy. She said she was a little upset at first that we had tricked her but she forgave us and she was so happy to have them. So, now she has her earrings and she doesn't have to wait for Jesus to do it!
