Since I was a few feet away from them, I literally had to put my head down on my office desk and muffle my laugh into my sleeve because I could barely contain myself. Joe was put off by her comment, but I had to think to myself...she is your daughter. She is a miniature Joe. She cracks jokes all the time. She really understands humor and sarcasm. She is a mini-Joe. He might be mad now because she was being disobedient and lying but tomorrow he will see the humor in her comment and realize he has helped create the monster!
So, the funny Emma story today goes like this. I pull up at 12:00 to pick up Emma from preschool. She gets in the car and exclaims, as she does every day, "I got candy again today!" If they are obedient at preschool they get a piece of candy as they leave school. She always gets one and she always opens it immediately upon getting into the van, even before buckling her seat belt. She is so proud of that candy. So, as always, she blurts out first thing, "I got candy again today!" Then, the next sentence out of her mouth is, "Mommy, I want to go to that place where all of the kids are sick, so I can get sick too and live there with them." I had no idea what in the world she was talking about, so I probe a little further. "Emma, what place are you talking about?" "I don't know, Mommy, but I think it a hospital and I want to go there so I can get sick too." "Emma, why do you want to get sick?" "Because if you live there you get to have lots of fun. I saw it on the commercial and the kids were having fun and I think they get a lot of candy there too!"
I still have no idea what commercial she is referring to, but I saw the connection ....candy. God bless my child who would wish a possible life threatening illness on herself just so she could get some candy. Maybe I limit the sugar in this house too much! My poor child would rather suffer illness and injury and live at a hospital with sick children, so she can have fun and eat candy. Maybe we need have a little bit more fun around here!
**Update: after reading my blog post Joe realized the commercial she has seen is for Victory Junction Camp. It is a really amazing camp for special needs children and our girls have asked Joe several times if they can go there and he has to explain that it is for children that are sick or have special needs. So, now we know where Emma Cate got her information. It does look like a fun place to go, but not at the expense that those precious children have to go through in order to earn the right to visit.
Lastly, it rained for most of the day today and the girls were live wires by 4:00 this afternoon. They were loud and crazy, so I put them in their rain boots and jackets and said go outside and dance in the rain, play on the porch, whatever you have to do to take this noise outside and get some energy out. On Emma's way out the door, I commented about how cute she looked in her jeans and rain boots. She suggested I take her picture. So, she posed in typical Emma fashion on the porch. Her photo session follows. Who can resist taking pictures when the subject is so cute...and look at that belly...I could eat it up!
Anyone seen Legally Blonde? Does this remind you of the Bend and Snap pose? :)
