So, anyone that knows Emma knows that she loves to dress up. Even if she just changes her own clothes 2-3 times a day, she always adds a new hair bow, necklace or other accessory. She loves to dress up! So this morning after she had changed out of her pjs and into her real clothes, before we left home at 7:30 to take Hannah to school, she had already changed into a Cinderella top with matching skirt. They are very shiny, metallic fabrics and probably size 2! They are getting very small. The shirt barely fastens in the back and her tummy hangs out the bottom of it! Since it was time to go, she decided to ride in the car in her belly shirt and skirt to drop Hannah off at school! On the way to school Emma informs me that she will be wearing her Cinderella outfit to preschool today. I politely informed her that no she would not! (My argument behind this was that it was yellow day in her class and she was supposed to wear her yellow shirt and yellow hair bows....not her hoochie momma silver and blue metallic toddler-sized Cinderella dress up clothes!) Well, as she ponders this, she comes up with Plan B. She decides that she can wear her yellow shirt and bows, but she will wear them with her shiny blue skirt. I politely told her that her skirt is not a "real" skirt. It is only for dress up. After a moment of silence, she responds, "Well Mom, my friends won't have to know it isn't real. I will tell them that I got it at the store in the "real" clothes section and I got the last one. That is why they have never seen it at the "real" clothes store before." After I chuckled out loud I did explain to her that it would be wrong to lie to her friends about it and that she should not try to lie to get her way or to make something seem acceptable. (I did think that was a pretty creative thought she had though...we just need to make sure she uses her genius ideas for good and not evil!) So, forgive me if you see my 4 1/2 year old running around town in her size 2 Metallic Cinderella get-up! She loves it and won't donate it to Good-Will until it no longer fastens in the back. Hopefully, she will hit a growth spurt soon and it will finally be put to rest. However, she has 3 cubbies full of others dresses that she also sports around our house, neighborhood and town. She is in love with Fancy Nancy (A children's book series about a girl who loves everything fancy) so, while she is young enough to play Princess and wear her glass slippers around town...she will don her boa scarves, high heels and fashion accessories around town and we will cherish every minute of it! For before long, these things will find a place in our attic and gone will be the days of Cinderella and Fairy tales and fake high heels. They will become precious memories of her childhood and part of who she was at this age...the dress up queen. The next time she sports her Cinderella outfit I'll be sure to take a picture because I want to use the word art below to scrapbook a page about her fascination with dressing up and it will be sure to include a picture of her in her dazzling attire!

i remember one day we were playing dress up and she INSISTED on wearing this big pink boa and an orange wig!!! she also had on lip gloss, and a diamond ring bigger than her hand. haha i hope she loves playing dress up for years to come!
What fun memories!! Jenna used to love to play dress up too. I remember well the looks from other mothers who, with the perfect nod or look, knew exactly why your daughter was wearing her Snow White outfit and sparkly red Dorothy Wizard of Oz shoes to McDonalds!
