Mother's Day and Hannah's Page

We had a fabulous Mother's Day on Sunday. My sweet girls woke me up with a "Happy Mudders Day" at 6:20 am! (Hannah still says "th" with a "d" sound) She knows how to say it correctly, but her brain is so trained to say it that way, we are having a hard time breaking her of the habit. So we began our Mudders Day celebration bright and early. You can't get upset to be woken early when your five year old is so excited to give you the gift she made you at school that she is bursting with pride at 6:30 over her hand-painted flower pot. She was so proud that she had kept it a secret from me since Friday afternoon. Emma on the other hand had barely fastened her carseat buckle in the car leaving preschool on Friday before she began helping me open her gift on the carride home. (Of course hers had Hershey Kisses inside and she was so eager to share them with me!) Emma made me a book at school and she drew the two of us on the cover (upside down by accident, but Hannah was creative and told Emma it just looked like she drew us doing headstands on the cover.) In Emma's book she wrote, "My mom has beautiful eyes." "She makes the best spaghetti." and "I love her because she plays with me."

After our 6:20 wake up, Hannah laid in bed with me and scratched my back because she knows I LOVE having my back scratched. Then we got up and they gave me my gift from Joe and the girls, which was a Chris Tomlin cd and a docking station/speakers for my i pod, so I can listen to it in any room. I was so excited! We then went to church. I had to stay for 2nd service to teach the kindergarteners so Joe and the girls left after first and went home and fixed lunch for me. After lunch we got the homemade ice cream ready for supper and then Mom, Catherine, Quincey and I went and got pedicures and manicures for one of Mom's surprise gifts. It was fun! After our pampering session we all went to Catherine and Rodney's where Rodney's mom, dad, sister, brother, sister-in-law and nephew all joined our clan for a big Mother's Day Dinner. Catherine and Rodney fixed the best meal. BBQ Ribs, pasta salad, baked beans, grilled corn on the cob, mac and cheese and rolls. We then had Roasted Banana Peanut ice cream for dessert. It was such a fabulous day. I am never happier than when I get to spend the day with so many loved ones, making memories! It was a fantastic day.

Unfortunately, the day ended with a scare but God was watching over Emma. We came home late from dinner and immediately got the girls ready for bed. We were tidying the girls' room up and Emma had left her play clothes and play jewelry on the floor. We couldn't find the ziploc bag for the jewelry so I sent her to the pantry to get another bag. She saw the blue oreo package and thought it was the blue ziploc box and slid it to the front of the pantry and when she did, she slid the jar of spaghetti sauce off the shelf and right onto her bare foot. I've never heard her cry like that. I thought she had broken her foot. She sobbed for a while while I held her and Joe iced her foot. We prayed over her and comforted her with blankie and she calmed down enough for Joe to get her to wiggle her toes and he pinched and pulled and rubbed them and she never flinched. So we know they aren't broken. This morning she has a good bruise on the top of her foot but she says her toes are not sore, like they were last night when she went to bed. Thank you Lord for watching over her.

Here is a page I did for Hannah with some pictures I took at Trent's birthday party on Saturday. I was not in a creative mood, and I had seen a layout in Shabby Jen's gallery that I liked, so I copied a lot of the ideas from the layout I found on her site. I hope that isn't taboo. You can see the original here. I think she did such a great job, that I had to make a page like it.

The kit is Shabby Jen's Flower Stand kit. The sepia picture of Hannah is a photo I turned black and white and then put it on top of this crinkled brown paper from the kit. I then went to the layers pallete and made Hannah's picture an overlay over the brown paper. I think it has a neat effect. This picture of her was great in color too, so I might use it on another page in color so I have both preserved.
