On Thursday night after the kids went to bed, Joe and I packed overnight bags for all of us. We loaded up the car with bathing suits, frisbees, DVD players and snacks and got ready to surprise the girls with an overnight trip to Columbia. Joe had a job to measure outside of Columbia so the kids and I tagged along and visited old friends, our old house and other favorites in the Columbia area. We didn’t tell the girls were we were going but as we got outside of Charlotte and Hannah started seeing signs to Columbia, she guessed our destination. We had a fast and furious trip but it was a lot of fun. We visited with the Thompson family and the Gray family, went to the park, ate a lot of good food, visited the college, saw our old house, my old school, tried to get my favorite sweet black bread to bring home but the sandwich shop had closed (so sad) and we enjoyed a dip in the hot tub at the hotel. The girls’ favorite part was the hotel of course, and going to the park. We picnicked at the park, played frisbee and played on the playground. They had such a fun time and we plan to do it again this summer. We love Columbia, but I do not miss the hot, hot, hot, dry, pollinated landscape. Did I mention it was hot! It would be perfect if it was on the coast. I can take the heat if there is an ocean to dive into. The girls were so surprised and it was a great way to end spring break. Unfortunately we missed both egg hunts we had planned for Saturday, because we stayed in Columbia longer than we had originally planned, but the girls said it was worth it because they had so much fun.
Visiting friends in the college cafeteria. The school was closed for Good Friday so there were very few people in the cafeteria. The boys had the floor to themselves. They crawled all over the place and played with toys. It was fun watching them interact.
Dinner with the Grays was so much fun and we finally got to meet Miss Landree in person! She was a delightful little doll….just like her mom. Hudson was equally as sweet and gorgeous.
This was Carter’s first attempt wearing a hat and we had to keep putting it back on. He wouldn’t leave it alone. So it is crooked, backwards, too high or falling off in all of his pictures.
He loves pushing his cars and trucks around. He got carpet burn on his knees from the hotel floor because he isn’t used to crawling on carpet. He did a funny gorilla walk on all fours most of the weekend because his little knees hurt! So sad!

We had so much fun seeing y'all too! I hope you will get to come back down again! Carter looks cute with his hat on-I just got one for Hudson and his little white bald head :)
