Cheerleading

We have had fun participating in Upward Cheerleading this year.  The girls practice on Thursday nights and have a game every Saturday during January and February.  It is a short enough season to really appreciate it and enjoy it.  I appreciate the church that hosts the upward program.  It is the girls’ former preschool. It is also where they attend Awana on Wednesday nights.  Our church doesn’t have children’s programs throughout the week and I am thankful for a church that ministers to my children even though we aren’t members.  The girls feel at home there and have adults that love them and make them feel special.  Most of all they teach them about the love of their Savior, even through cheerleading!  Each week the girls learn a verse to say at practice.  When they recite the verse they earn a star for their megaphone.  After each game they meet together and are awarded stars for different attributes they exhibit throughout the game; such as Christ-likeness, leadership, effort, spirit.  During half-time of each game they have a devotional and prayer before each game.  What a great program!

This week I told Hannah, “Mommy got another big order from a school. What do we say?”  Her first response was “Thank you, Jesus.”  When I asked the same thing of Emma she said, “Yeah.”  I said, “What else do we say?”  She replied, “Good Job, Mommy!”  Both responses warm my heart!  When I asked Emma what we say to Jesus, she replied, “Thank you, Jesus.”  So, this week we are thanking Jesus for these orders and thanking him for a 2nd church family that loves my children,  loves Jesus and teaches them about His love, through Bible study at Awana and through spirit-filled cheerleading coaches.
