I missed a chance at some adorable pictures of the girls yesterday. Catherine invited me to go get a pedicure before the baby arrives and we decided to take the girls too. We were going to just get their nails painted but when we found out that the price for children to get a pedicure is significantly less than adults, we let them get their first pedicure. They were so cute propped up in the big chair getting their feet scrubbed and polished and beautiful. They had to move the chair up to the top most position and they still had to have towels propped up behind them so their feet could reach the water, but they were so adorable. I think they felt like true princesses. Emma kept asking the girl exactly what she was doing and what all the lotions and scrubs were for. Emma chose blue polish in honor of Brother and Hannah chose purple. They both got flowers on their big toes and Hannah got flowers on her thumbs and Emma got butterflies. They were adorable. I now have holiday gift ideas for my 4 and 6 year old....getting their nails done! They love getting their nails painted at the salon! Even Hannah who doesn't like frills or bows loves having nail polish on! I hate I didn't think to take the camera. It is packed with our hospital stuff so I haven't taken many pictures this week. I'll try to pull it out this afternoon and take some glamour shots of their nails.
Having Emma's nails polished also helped me persuade her to fall asleep without sucking her thumb. Knowing she had a beautiful butterfly on her thumb, I was able to convince her not to suck her thumb. I sat with her while she fell asleep and scratched her back so I could encourage her not to. It was so hard for her. She asked, "Mommy is it okay if I tuck my hand right here under my chin by my mouth so it is close to me. It just feels better knowing my thumb is near by." I could tell she really wanted to. It was like watching a smoker trying not to smoke. You could tell it was almost like an addiction. A few times after she fell asleep I saw her mouth make the sucking motion without her thumb even being in there. I hope she can succeed again tonight. I am making a sticker chart for her this afternoon so she can be rewarded once she fills it up. I hope this will be the beginning of breaking the habit.

This will definitely be an 'addiction' for us to break too. Landree's little hand has cracked skin from sucking her thumb and it just makes her mad when I put lotion on it.
