Hannah's Field Trip in the FREEZING cold

Hannah's class braved the cold today and went on their field trip to Old Salem. Despite the windy conditions and a high of 30 they toured the town of Salem. Hannah said they saw "Pilgrims" (really Moravians). She said they were dressed just like they did long ago in the times of the Pilgrims! Her favorite part of the tour was this building. Any idea of what is inside this historic landmark?

The Old Salem Website said the field trip included:

  1. Experiencing what school was like in Salem in an early 19th century classroom setting.
  2. Learning how family roles have changed while preparing a recipe from long ago on the hearth.
  3. Working with raw materials and tools to learn about the trades in Salem.
  4. Carding, spinning and dying wool as they learn how families worked together.

Hannah's favorite parts were making the "old fashion" cookie (that's what she called it) and using the wool to make a mitten.

Her day was even better she said, because she got to start it off by having a father/daughter breakfast at her school. Once a quarter the PTA sponsors a breakfast and this quarter it was Doughnuts with Dad. All of the Dad's came to school and had breakfast with their child. Hannah was so excited to take Joe to school. All in all, I think she had a pretty great day and on top of that, no school on Monday. She's looking forward to a three day weekend and I'm looking forward to sleeping in on Monday and not having to pack lunches!
